What it is: Nutmeat is a log of brown savory patty made out of baked peanuts and onion. They are mixed into a paste then set inside the can. When opened, the log of nutmeat comes out in a single can shaped piece. This product is made by the Sanitarium company and commonly used as a meat substitute by vegetarians and vegans.

How it tastes: Nutmeat tastes nutty and slightly salty, but is rather a plain and acquired taste. To some, it may be reminiscent of tofu, but with a nuttier flavor without the heavy soy taste.
